We offer 3 components for Sports Performance Enhancement:

1. Sports Injury Rehabilitation

2. Performance Testing and Assessment

3. Sport Specific Training – Strength and Conditioning and Injury Prevention

1. Sports Injury Rehabilitation

We utilize a sports medicine team approach in the treatment of orthopaedic injuries which returns our patients back to work, play and life as timeously as possible.

Our team approach includes close communication with sports physicians, physiotherapists, athletic trainers, coaches, employers and administrators on the progress of each individual.

Our Sports Injury Rehabilitation will benefit those with:

  • Post-operative injuries - ACL reconstruction, Meniscus tears, Rotator Cuff Repair
  • Acute and chronic musculoskeletal injuries
  • Sprains and strains
  • Tendonopathy
  • Bursitis

Goals of our rehabilitation is to treat, rehabilitate, recondition and return the physically active population to their prior activity level. We emphasize the importance of early injury recognition and treatment.

* Please see orthopaedic rehabilitation and musculoskeletal conditions we treat on our website.

2. Performance Testing and Assessment

This includes taking an individual or a team through a battery of tests to identify strengths, weaknesses and baseline measurements and where additional training is required to meet the demands of the sport.

The test battery typically includes:

  • Postural assessment
  • Body composition assessment
  • Muscle flexibility tests
  • Muscle strength and muscle endurance
  • Sport specific assessments (Speed, agility, co-ordination)
  • Cardiovascular fitness

Following a training intervention or depending on where the athlete is in their season, re-assessments will be performed to gain further information on the conditioning of the athlete and to measure the physiological influence of the intervention.

3. Sport Specific Training – Strength and Conditioning and Injury Prevention

Individual specific strength and conditioning programmes are designed to improve sporting performance of the athlete and reduce the risk of orthopaedic injury.

Our biokineticists will guide the athlete through this scientifically designed periodized training programme for optimal performance and adequate recovery so to limit the risk of over-training.

These programmes focus on:

  • Muscle strength and endurance
  • Speed
  • Cardiovascular fitness
  • Agility
  • Co-ordination
  • Proprioceptive training
  • High intensity interval training
  • Sport specific – functional exercises
  • Hydrotherapy – recovery sessions
